Chet in Mind, Introducing the orchestra
In a famous interview, Chet Baker said he didn't know whether he was a trumpeter who sang or a singer who played the trumpet. This dual talent is at the heart of the Chet in Mind project.
Didier Burgaud, Simon Teboul and their bandmates perform the repertoire of the famous Chet Baker. A seductive, respectful reinterpretation in the spirit of the cool jazz legend. Some of the songs he played - well-known ("But not for Me", "Just Friends") and lesser-known ("Look for the Silver Lining", "For Minors Only"), others he never recorded but could have performed ("No Moon at All", "Comes Love").
This orchestra's artistic gamble is based on original arrangements that create a different atmosphere for each track, while respecting Chet's spirit, or spirits, given the evolution of this great artist's musical styles. Far from being a copy, Chet in Mind offers an evocation of Chet's musical universe, peppered with winks (Chet's famous solo on "But Not for Me" is harmonized in two voices, the voicing of "Time After Time" refers to the Mulligan-Baker pairing in the "pianoless quartet".
The trumpet and vocals are integrated into the dynamic, shimmering backdrop of a top-class rhythm section.
